Similar to head room is the concept of lead room. It’s important when framing a moving subject to give it somewhere to go. Psychologically, an audience needs to see where an object is headed to feel comfortable with a shot. Now, it’s possible on occasion to leverage this psychology to produce intentional discomfort in an audience. By removing the lead room from a shot of a moving car, the audience is already subconsciously anticipating a collision due to the lack of visibility.
