Leading Lines

Overview

Strong geometric lines in a frame will lead the eye to the intended subject. It’s possible for a character whose overall frame is smaller than other characters still to command the viewer’s attention simply because the leading lines in the frame direct the eye in his or her direction. Leading lines could be perspective lines or evenly-spaced props. It’s not uncommon for directors to arrange actors based on physical height to create leading lines.
